Duration: 13:00
Instrumentation: String orchestra
Background information: My former composition instructor asked me to write something sensitive for string orchestra when all I wanted to do was work on my electronic symphony. I came to a compromise by writing the third movement of the symphony for string orchestra with plans to synthesize it with sounds of my own creation. I feel that I did this successfully; I love this piece both as a single movement four part form, and as part of my first symphony.
Musical Comments: The symphony is entitled context, and this piece is the turning point of the symphony where I attempt to portray a person's attitude towards life becoming that of selflessness. The symphony is a depiction of the struggle a person must have to see a world outside of themselves, and this movement is where that finally begins to happen. It is about a person putting himself in context with the universe.
